China imported 1.2 million tons of unwrought aluminum and aluminum products in the first half of this year, up 10.7% over the same period last year, according to data from the General Administration of Customs of China. The increase was mostly brought on by domestic production being constrained by Yunnan province's hydropower shortfall and demand projections.
Only in June did imports reach a total of about 211,000 tons, up 10.2% from the previous month and 12.8% from the previous year.
Investors hoped that the government will adopt additional stimulus measures to boost the industry and economic growth.
