Abrasion Resistant Steel
Why you need abrasion resistant steel?
In industries such as mining, construction, and manufacturing, equipment and machinery are subjected to severe abrasion and wear, leading to frequent maintenance and replacement costs. Traditional steel materials are often inadequate in providing sufficient resistance to such wear and tear, resulting in decreased productivity and increased downtime.
What is abrasion resistant steel plate?
Abrasion Resistant Steel, commonly referred to as AR steel or wear-resistant steel, is an engineered wear-resistant steel with excellent toughness and hardness.
Promisteel's wear-resistant steel plates can significantly enhance the wear performance of your products and equipment, reduce the risk of downtime due to failures, and aid in the development of highly precise maintenance schedules. Depending on the application, our abrasion-resistant (AR) steel can extend the service life of your products by two to three times, and in some cases, even more than five times. Additionally, our AR steel plates can help reduce the weight of your products. The unique combination of hardness, toughness, and structural strength in our wear-resistant plates allows for reduced thickness while still increasing durability. Using thinner steel plates helps you manufacture transport equipment with higher load capacity, thus reducing CO2 emissions.
Abrasion resistant steel is commonly used in the following industries :
- Earthmoving equipment and attachments
- Construction, demolition, and recycling
- Material handling, crushing, and conveying
- Mining, quarrying, and processing
- Cement and other industrial plants
- Agricultural and forestry machinery
- Trucks, trailers, and other vehicles
How to make steel abrasion resistant ?
At Promisteel, we produce our abrasion-resistant (AR) steel through a meticulous quenching and tempering (Q&T) process. This method enhances the grain structure of the steel, significantly increasing its toughness and formability while reducing brittleness. The result is a through-hardened steel plate that offers superior wear resistance.
The Q&T process involves two key stages:
Quenching: The steel is heated to a high temperature, typically between 1,500-1,650 degrees Fahrenheit, and then rapidly cooled with water. This rapid cooling forms crystal structures within the steel, greatly enhancing its hardness.
Tempering: After quenching, the steel is reheated to a temperature between 300-700 degrees Fahrenheit and then allowed to cool slowly in normal air conditions. This reheating phase breaks down some of the brittle crystal structures formed during quenching, while the controlled cooling allows new, more ductile structures to form. This process maintains the steel's high strength and hardness while significantly improving its overall ductility.
Our AR steel plates, produced through this advanced Q&T process, are through-hardened, ensuring that the hardness and durability extend throughout the entire thickness of the material, not just the surface. This results in a wear-resistant plate that performs exceptionally well under harsh conditions.
Promisteel's wear-resistant steel plates combine outstanding hardness with remarkable toughness, making them ideal for use as structural wear plates. Fabricators can easily bend, machine, drill, and weld these plates without the need for preheating. The consistent and guaranteed properties of our steel ensure greater predictability and productivity in any workshop setting.
