Approximately 310,000 tons of billets were imported into Turkey in May, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), a decrease of 27.3% from the previous month and an increase of 22.4% from the same month a year prior. The import value was US$198 million, down 25% from the previous month and 1.5% from the previous year.
Turkey imported around 1.7 million tons of billet in the first five months of this year, an increase of 97.4% from the same time last year. These imports had a total value of $1.01 billion, up 57% year over year.
Among these, imports from Algeria were over 347,200 tons, and those from Russia increased by 51.8% year over year to close to 50,000 tons.
