What is Silicon Steel Sheet?
Silicon Steel Sheet, also known as Electrical Steel or Lamination Steel, is a specialty soft magnetic material vital for the performance of almost all electromagnetic devices. By alloying iron with a specific percentage of silicon (typically up to 3.2%), we significantly increase its electrical resistivity and magnetic permeability while reducing core loss (iron loss). This unique combination makes silicon steel the ideal core material for converting or transferring electrical energy efficiently.
Our silicon steel sheets are the unseen workhorses inside the devices that power our world, from massive power transformers to the intricate motors in electric vehicles.

Understanding the Two Types of Silicon Steel
To serve different electromagnetic field requirements, silicon steel is produced in two primary types. Choosing the correct one is crucial for optimizing your device's performance and cost.
Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel (CRGO)
Best for Static, Directional Magnetic Fields.
CRGO steel is processed to have a highly uniform crystal grain structure, creating an "easy" path for magnetization along the rolling direction. This results in exceptionally low core loss and high permeability in one direction.
Primary Application: Power and distribution transformer cores.
Non-Oriented Electrical Steel (CRNGO)
Best for Rotating or Multi-Directional Magnetic Fields.
CRNGO steel has a random grain orientation, providing uniform magnetic properties in all directions within the plane of the sheet. This makes it ideal for applications where the magnetic field is constantly changing direction.
Primary Application: Electric motors, generators, compressors, and small transformers.
Use this table to quickly identify the right type of electrical steel for your project.
| Feature | Grain-Oriented (CRGO) Steel | Non-Oriented (CRNGO) Steel |
| Magnetic Property | Anisotropic (Directional) | Isotropic (Uniform in all directions) |
| Key Advantage | Extremely low core loss in a single direction | Consistent performance in rotating fields |
| Primary Applications | Power Transformers, Distribution Transformers, Large Reactors | Motors, Generators, Relays, Ballasts, Small Transformers |
| Typical Products | Transformer Cores, Wound Cores | Stator & Rotor Laminations, EI Cores |

Key Features & Benefits
Exceptionally Low Core Loss
Benefit: Maximizes energy efficiency, meets global energy standards (e.g., DOE, Ecodesign), reduces heat output, and lowers the total cost of ownership for the end-user.
High Magnetic Permeability in Rolling Direction
Benefit: Allows for the design of smaller and lighter transformer cores, leading to significant savings in material (copper and steel) and overall manufacturing costs.
Superior Insulation Coating (C5)
Benefit: Provides high interlaminar resistance, effectively minimizing eddy current losses. The coating is stress-resistant and maintains integrity during core annealing and assembly.
Precise Dimensional Tolerance & Flatness
Benefit: Ensures a high, uniform stacking factor (lamination density), predictable magnetic performance, and suitability for automated core cutting and assembly lines.

FAQ:
1,Q: What is your Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) and lead time for silicon steel coils?
A: We pride ourselves on flexibility to support projects of all sizes.
MOQ: Our standard MOQ for most common grades is typically 5-10 metric tons. However, for certain grades or existing clients, we can often accommodate smaller trial orders. The best way to know for sure is to send us your specific requirements.
Lead Time: Our average lead time from order confirmation to shipment is approximately 3-4 weeks for standard grades. For custom-produced or less common grades, it may extend to 6-8 weeks. We always provide a firm delivery schedule upon quoting and work diligently to meet your project timelines.
2, Q: Do you provide material test certificates (MTCs), and can you guarantee the quality and traceability?
A: Absolutely. Quality and transparency are cornerstones of the Promisteel promise.
Every shipment from our facility is accompanied by a detailed Material Test Certificate (MTC) or Certificate of Conformance (CoC). This document includes:
Precise chemical composition.
Key magnetic properties (Core Loss, Magnetic Induction).
Mechanical properties (Hardness, Tensile Strength).
Heat number and coil number for full traceability back to the raw material.
Our operations are ISO 9001 certified, ensuring that every coil we produce and process meets rigorous international quality standards. You can have complete confidence in the consistency and performance of Promisteel products.
3, Q: Can you supply silicon steel in custom widths or cut sheets instead of full coils?
A: Yes, we are a full-service supplier, not just a mill. Our state-of-the-art processing capabilities are a key advantage for our clients. We can provide silicon steel in the exact form you need for your production line:
Slit Coils: We can precision-slit master coils to any custom width your stamping or winding machines require, with tight tolerances.
Cut-to-Length Sheets: We can shear coils into rectangular or square sheets of specific dimensions.
Laminations: For select projects, we also partner to provide ready-to-assemble stamped or laser-cut laminations (e.g., EI, stator, rotor shapes).
