China's First Independently Developed Thin Strip Casting and Rolling Line to Start Hot Trial in August 2025

In a groundbreaking development for China's steel industry, Shanxi Hongda Steel Group's annual 1-million-ton thin strip casting and rolling project is nearing completion, with hot commissioning of its main production line scheduled for August 2025.

On June 10, Meng Weijun, Standing Committee Member of Yuncheng City and Party Secretary of Hejin City, visited the project site to inspect the progress. As a key provincial and national industrial project, this thin strip continuous casting and rolling line represents a breakthrough in China's steel technology innovation.

Project Highlights

✅ Total Investment: RMB 1.5 billion (~$210 million)

✅ Construction Completion: 96% (as of June 2025)

✅ Projected Annual Output: 1 million tons of thin strip hot-rolled steel

✅ Expected Annual Revenue Increase: RMB 6 billion (~$840 million)

Technological Significance

Jointly developed by Hongda Steel Group and Baowu Steel Group, this facility is China's first fully independently developed thin strip continuous casting and rolling production line.
It successfully fills the technological gap in China's ESP (Endless Strip Production) process for high-end thin strip steel manufacturing.

This advancement not only strengthens China's position in advanced metallurgy but also reduces reliance on imported technologies, representing a pivotal step toward global steel industry leadership.
