Product Introduction

High Carbon Chromium Bearing Steel is the gold standard material for manufacturing precision rolling bearings. Often referred to simply as "Chrome Steel," it features a carbon content of ~1.00% and a chromium content of ~1.50%.

Our flagship grade, GCr15 (AISI 52100 / 100Cr6), is produced using Vacuum Degassing (VD) and strictly controlled refining processes to minimize non-metallic inclusions (oxides and sulfides). This high purity ensures the steel possesses exceptional Contact Fatigue Strength, allowing bearings to run for millions of revolutions without spalling or failure. We supply this material in a Spheroidize Annealed condition, ensuring excellent machinability for turning and forming before heat treatment.

Product Specifications & Grade Equivalents

We supply bearing steel meeting the strictest international standards for micro-cleanliness and carbide distribution.

Key Features and Advantages

  • Superior Fatigue Resistance: High cleanliness (oxygen ≤12 ppm) minimizes microscopic defects, preventing fatigue cracks from initiating under high-speed rotation.
  • High Hardness & Wear Resistance: After quenching and low-temperature tempering, the hardness reaches 60-64 HRC, providing excellent resistance to abrasion and surface deformation.
  • Spheroidized Microstructure: Our annealing process achieves a fine, uniform distribution of spherical carbides. This is crucial for good machinability and ensuring the steel does not crack during quenching.
  • Dimensional Stability: Precise heat treatment ensures the bearing components maintain their tight tolerances over years of operation.

Typical Applications

Rolling Bearings

The primary material for balls, rollers (cylindrical, tapered, spherical), and bearing rings.

Linear Motion

Used for linear guide rails, ball screws, and slide shafts in CNC machines and automation equipment.

Automotive Components

CV joints, steering racks, and high-stress pins.

Precision Shafts

Motor shafts and pump shafts requiring high surface hardness.

FAQ

Q1: What is the difference between 52100 and Stainless Bearing Steel (440C)?

A1: 52100 (GCr15) is a carbon-chromium steel that offers superior fatigue life and load-carrying capacity but has poor corrosion resistance. It requires lubrication. 440C is a stainless steel used in corrosive environments (food, medical, and marine) but has a slightly lower load capacity and is more expensive.

Q2: What is "Spheroidize Annealing" and why is it important?

A2: Spheroidize Annealing is a heat treatment that transforms the carbides in the steel into a spherical shape. This makes the steel soft enough to be machined (turned or cold formed) and ensures it hardens uniformly during the final quenching process. We supply all bearing steel in this condition.

Q3: Can 52100 steel be welded?

A3: No. Due to its very high carbon content (~1.0%), 52100 steel has extremely poor weldability. Welding will cause brittle cracking. Parts should be assembled using mechanical fits or adhesives, not welding.

Q4: Do you offer "Peeled" or "Centerless Ground" bars?

A4: Yes. For automated machining (CNC Swiss Lathes), we recommend Peeled & Polished or Centerless Ground bars. These have tight diameter tolerances (ISO h9/h10) and are free from surface decarburization, allowing for immediate machining.
