The Aluminum Association of the United States recently reported that common alloy aluminum sheet goods made in China are further processed in South Korea and then sold to the United States. The group also requested that the US Department of Commerce (USDOC) launch an investigation into the circumvention.
The United States levies anti-dumping and countervailing charges on common alloy aluminum sheets from China. According to the organization, China's Henan Mingtai Aluminium Industrial Co., Ltd. sells the subject commodities to the United States through its South Korean subsidiary Gwangyang Aluminum Industries Co., Ltd. in order to avoid duties.
The USDOC will decide whether to initiate the circumvention investigation procedure within 45 days. A preliminary decision is likely in mid-September after the investigation is initiated.
Aluminum sheets with a thickness of 0.26.3mm from the 1000, 3000, and 5000 class alloys are utilized primarily as building materials.
