Pressure Vessel Steel Plate is designed to hold gases or liquids at high pressures and extreme temperatures (both high and cryogenic). Unlike structural steel, these plates must possess exceptional toughness, weldability, and homogeneity to prevent catastrophic explosions.
Our inventory is anchored by ASTM A516 Grade 70 (Normalized), the world's most specified carbon steel for moderate-to-lower temperature service. For critical oil & gas applications involving "sour service" (H₂S environment), we supply HIC Resistant (Hydrogen Induced Cracking) plates strictly tested to NACE MR0175 standards to ensure safety and longevity.

Why Choose Our PVQ Plates?
- Normalization (N): We recommend supplying A516 Gr 70 in the Normalized condition (A516 Gr 70N). Normalizing refines the grain structure, significantly improving Notch Toughness at low temperatures (Charpy V-Notch test at -46°C).
- HIC & SSCC Resistance: For sour gas environments, our plates are produced with ultra-low sulfur (S < 0.002%) and calcium treatment to pass the HIC (Hydrogen Induced Cracking) and SSCC tests per NACE TM0284.
- Weldability: Low Carbon Equivalent (CE) ensures excellent weldability, essential for fabricating large tanks and complex piping systems.
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT): All plates >12 mm are typically tested to ASTM A435 or A578 Level B to ensure freedom from laminations and inclusions.
Typical Applications
Oil & Gas: Separation vessels, storage tanks, and distillation columns in refineries.
Power Generation: Industrial boilers, steam drums, and heat exchangers.
Chemical Industry: Reactors, autoclaves, and ammonia storage spheres.
Desalination: Flash chambers and evaporators.
Storage Tanks: Large crude oil storage tanks (API 650 standard).
FAQ
Q1: What is the difference between A516 Grade 60 and Grade 70?
A1: Tensile Strength.
Grade 70 has a higher Tensile Strength (485-620 MPa) and is used where a higher pressure rating is needed to reduce wall thickness.
Grade 60 has lower strength (415-550 MPa) but better ductility and notch toughness and is often used in lower-temperature service.
Q2: What does "N" mean in A516 Gr 70 N?
A2: "N" stands for Normalized. This is a heat treatment where the plate is heated and air-cooled to refine the grain size. For A516 Gr 70, normalizing is mandatory for thicknesses over 40mm, but we recommend it for all thicknesses to ensure superior impact properties and safety.
Q3: Can you supply HIC-resistant steel?
A3: Yes. We supply HIC-resistant A516 Gr 70 plates tailored for sour service (environments with wet H₂S). These plates meet NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 requirements and come with third-party HIC test reports.
Q4: Is Q345R equivalent to A516 Gr 70?
A4: They are functionally equivalent but not identical. Q345R is the Chinese GB standard pressure vessel steel. It has slightly higher manganese and lower carbon than A516 Gr 70. For most non-ASME code vessels, they can be substituted, but for ASME stamped vessels, you must use A516 Gr 70.
