ArcelorMittal Restarts Hot Coil Mill in Spain

 

ArcelorMittal, Europe's largest steelmaker, has restarted its Sestao hot-rolled coil plant after a nine-month shutdown.
ArcelorMittal's HRC production at Sestao was shut down for maintenance in August 2022 but was not restarted on time due to high energy prices and unfavorable market conditions.
The company declined to comment on the reasons behind the restart, but ArcelorMittal noted in its recent report that apparent consumption in Europe improved in the first quarter from the previous quarter as the destocking period ended, and in 2023 The outlook is positive. In addition, ArcelorMittal’s A blast furnace in Gijon (2.4 million tons/year) and Dunkirk’s No. 4 blast furnace (3.8 million tons/year) were forced to idle in March due to fire accidents. It is planned to restart in June.
ArcelorMittal Sestao has an annual production capacity of about 800,000 tonnes of hot rolled coil. By 2025, the plant is expected to produce around 1.6 million tonnes of fossil-free steel.
